Fully 96% of Americans, Democrats, and Republicans, agree on the importance of Social Security. The program is approaching its 9th decade and has become the financial backbone for retirees, widows, widowers, disabled individuals, and dependents. Americans have long viewed Social Security as a reliable and robust source of income. Now, however, many Americans are anxious about its future. A recent Social Security Trustees’ report warned that Social Security will not be able to pay full benefits after 2033. Once the program’s trust fund is exhausted, incoming payroll taxes can only pay 77 cents of every dollar in scheduled benefits. Without reforms, Social Security beneficiaries could face 23 percent automatic benefit cuts as soon as 2033. Join us for this critical discussion about the future of Social Security and possible solutions to restore it to strength.
